Question: When is the BBC not the BBC? Answer: When it’s BBC Worldwide.
What’s that got to do with #AskDW? You might be wondering (And where’s Peter Capaldi, you might be demanding). Bear with me just a moment – the videos are coming, I promise.
Doctor Who is almost a national institution in Britain but is obviously well known around the world. However, as the BBC is funded by the UK taxpayer it also has a commercial subsidiary – BBC Worldwide. Occasionally, that means they will release their own bonus content too.
In this case, BBCAmerica (which BBC Worldwide co-owns) have shared a series of short, lighthearted Q&A’s on their YouTube Channel with Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie and Steven Moffat, which may slip under UK fan’s radar.
I love these little personalised mini-interviews so if you’ve not seen #AskDW before – check them out below.
Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi talks about what it’s like to play the Doctor and how he’d most like to be remembered.
Peter Capaldi also talks about the challenges of filming season 10 and what he’d do if he met himself, er, I mean the Doctor for real.
Pearl Mackie, who travelled with the Doctor throughout season 10, talks about companions.
Doctor Who Show Runner Steven Moffat discusses his (and the show’s) legacy and giving Peter Capaldi his own plane.
Steven Moffat is also leaving Doctor Who after the Christmas Special, and talks about his best moments working on the show.
I hope they continue these traditions under new show runner Chris Chibnall; I enjoy seeing the personalities behind the cast and crew of my favourite show!
