SFX magazine reveals in an interview with outgoing Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat, that the Thirteenth Doctor will have a Yorkshire accent. Great news for fans who were eager for Jodie Whittaker to keep her regional accent for the role.
This month’s SFX includes a 24 page Doctor Who Special, featuring interviews with Steven Moffat, Peter Capaldi, David Bradley and an ‘all you need to know’ piece on incoming Doctor Jodie Whittaker.
The Thirteenth Doctor will have a Yorkshire accent
GamesRadar (the online voice of SFX) gives us a little teaser from the Steven Moffat interview:
“You’ll spend more time in that first episode reacting to her accent than her gender. It’ll be, ‘Oh, what a big fuss… oh, she’s funny, isn’t she?… Yorkshire? Why’s she got a Yorkshire accent?’ That’s going to be it.”
Great news to have it confirmed that Jodie Whittaker will be keeping her natural Yorkshire accent when playing the Doctor.
I’m also excited by an additional quote from Steven talking about Jodie when he says she’s “a fireball of mischief and humour and energy” . Previous actor’s to play the Doctor have historically injected a lot of their own personality into the role, which is part of what makes each incarnation of the Doctor so unique.
You can buy SFX magazines in newsagents from Wednesday 6th December for £4.99. It’s also available to order online, (including digital and single editions).
